Buying Cocktail Glasses Can Be Fun

The first time you go out to buy cocktail glasses for your home bar may be a little tricky. You could end up buying a lot of glasses which you will probably never need. Cocktails are supposed to be served in different kinds of glasses, and each glass is used for a different cocktail. This is the way things should be done, we do not live in a perfect world and we do not own a bar either so we do not need all that glassware.

You will require some essentials though and that is what we will talk about. Cocktail glasses are available in many colors, shapes and sizes. Each designer makes his in a different way so do not worry if yours are different than others. The main point of the matter is that you like them and that the combination of them looks good on your bar.

Martini glasses are usually long stemmed and elegant. Again they come in different heights and shapes. They are not only made of glass but crystal, aluminum and a great variety of materials. An important factor when choosing these is that the stem is not too delicate and thin where it meets with the cup, also be sure that they are dishwasher safe. Some of them have to be washed by hand because they are very delicate. If this is your first experience in buying glassware for your bar we recommend that you take the transparent kind.
 
Another necessary item is a set of Old Fashion cocktail glasses, these look very much like regular glasses but they are thinner and hold less liquid. The next item on the list is a set of margarita glasses; these are large open mouthed glasses. They should be a little shorter than your martini glasses. Since they are big on the top you do not want them to overwhelm the smaller glasses.

Now you need some shot glasses. These are the type used for tequila and vodka shots. You will not need many of these because people in parties don’t usually sit all night at a party drinking tequila shots.  You will need a set or two of double cocktail glasses; these are used to serve drinks on the rocks or neat shots. These and the Old Fashion glasses are the ones you will use the most so make sure you buy several sets.

You will have to buy a set of Hurricane cocktail glasses, these are tall glasses in which you make the fruity mixes. Banana Daiquiris, Pina Coladas, hurricanes and the like are made and served in these glasses with the cute umbrellas and pieces of fruit. Last but not least a nice set of beer glasses will be absolutely necessary to complete your bar setup.

Whatever design or size you chose keep in mind these tips.  All glassware that is transparent is cheaper than the colored ones. Prices vary greatly from one to another especially if they are made by famous people or companies. You can find cheap cocktail glasses which are elegant and good looking; you do not have to buy fancy glasses. Before buying them take one of each and set them on a table to make sure they combine with each other in shape and size. The combination must be balanced and attractive. When you are satisfied, take them home and get ready to party.
